A family legacy at Siegel Bros.

It’s a family affair at Siegel Bros. in Mount Kisco, one that draws on a legacy that’s more than a century old.

Brothers Doug, Jeremy and David Nevins, along with family friend and butcher Don Meyers, are the driving forces behind the specialty food market, Siegel Bros. Marketplace, at 39 S. Moger Avenue.

The store is an ode to the original Siegel’s store, which was opened by the brothers’ grandfather, Abram Siegel, who launched the venture after fleeing a czarist regime in Russia in the early 1900s. Siegel opened his own shop and slaughterhouse, Siegel’s Meats, Poultry and Livestock, in Woodbine, N.J in 1912.

The mantra of Siegel Bros. is to serve real, quality food to the brothers’ customers, offering only the best-tasting, healthiest eats possible. Meats served at the market are sourced from sustainably raised animals that are grass or grain fed and raised without hormones or antibiotics. The market’s seafood department also follows these standards, with wild-caught fish sourced only from reputable suppliers. The store also aims to eliminate waste by employing a “nose-to-tail” method, whereby no part of an animal – from its nose to its tail – goes unused.

A true heaven on earth for meat and cheese lovers, Siegel Bros. also features an expansive assortment of cheeses, from gorgonzola to queso de mano, and an array of meats like salumi, prosciutto and braciola. Siegel Bros. also offers a robust selection of prepared foods spearheaded by Chef David Nevins. On a recent visit, WAG was treated to a tasty lamb and lentil stir-fry, juicy cuts of seasoned pork and our personal favorite, delectably creamy crabcakes.

Across the walkway from the marketplace at 41 S. Moger Avenue sits Siegel Bros. Wine & Spirits. Walls are lined with wines and spirits both from across the globe and our own backyard, like StillTheOneDistillery’s 914 bourbon. The store also features an eight-bottle preservation system, giving customers the opportunity to sample a selection of the store’s offerings.

Drawing on generations of experience, Siegel Bros. offers customers delicious, quality eats with a conscious.
