A fashionable approach to women’s history

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk will offer a May 19 illustrated talk on fashion and women’s suffrage.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk is set to offer an illustrated talk on fashion and women’s suffrage.

“Fashioning Women’s Suffrage” will address how suffragists used dress and other outward symbols to promote their cause.

The May 19 event will feature Heather Munro Prescott, who served as the expert advisor for the museum’s exhibition “From Corsets to Suffrage: Victorian Women Trailblazers.” She is a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University and her teaching and research interests include, U.S. women’s history, the history of medicine and public health, the history of childhood and disability history.

The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is $15 ($10 for members). A buffet of light refreshments and iced tea will be offered in the mansion’s Billiards Room prior to the presentation. The museum is at 295 West Ave.
