A ‘gathering place’ for pampering

A visit to the spa is always a good idea. Especially, if it’s well deserved.

(Which, of course, it is.)

And the Agora Spa at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa offers a most luxurious retreat for those seeking relaxation, rejuvenation or beautification, or a combination of the three.

Named after the agoras of ancient Greece — hotspots of social gathering and activity — the 3,600-square-foot facility features six private treatment rooms, including a couple’s suite, and a range of therapeutic and aesthetic services for the face and body.

According to owner Joycie Lewis, it’s a peaceful retreat from the outside world.

“We strive to create balance and serenity,” she says, “to enhance well-being and allow guests to reconnect with themselves.”

The service menu includes touch therapies, skincare therapies and enhancements, body wraps, manicures and pedicures, makeup application and hair removal. But for newcomers to Agora’s massage experience, Lewis suggests the Spa La La package — a 50-minute signature massage and facial with a $30 boutique credit ($260).

For those seeking a more specialized experience, options include The Couples Massage, a signature massage in the couple’s suite ($250 for 50 minutes); the Deep Tissue Massage, which uses intense pressure to stimulate circulation and sooth tension for clients with active lifestyles ($165 for 60 minutes); and the Thai Massage, in which guests explore yoga and stretching ($185 for 60 minutes).

Those seeking individualized therapy can appropriately select the Custom Massage, which uses elements from the signature massage with special regard to areas of concern ($165 for 60 minutes), while expectant mothers can unwind with the Prenatal Massage ($155 for 50 minutes).

For those requesting a skincare treatment, Lewis suggests beginning with the microdermabrasion or the Alpha Therapy Collagen to replenish skin after the summer months, she says. Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing technique that covers the dermis with tiny crystals to remove dead surface cells ($195 for 55 minutes), while the Alpha Therapy Collagen is a treatment that resurfaces and hydrates the skin, stimulating circulation and cellular activity ($155 for 50 minutes).

Pre- or post-visit, guests may enjoy the relaxation lounge or order from the spa menu, which includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches and pasta, in addition to wine and Champagne selections. For spa enthusiasts, Agora Spa offers a club membership, which affords guests VIP scheduling and product discounts, as well as unlimited access to the relaxation lounge and locker room facilities.

The Agora Spa in the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa is at 243 Tresser Blvd. in Stamford. For more information and promotions, call 203-977-1234 or visit stamfordmarriott.com.
