WAG is just about wrapping up its celebration of home and design, the theme of our March issue, but good design is a year-round passion for us.
We’re looking forward to the 46th annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House, the May event advanced here earlier this month, but also excited to have received advance copies of two design books due out in May from Thames & Hudson.
“It’s Beautiful Here” by Megan Morton (240 pages, $45), to be released May 1, is a look at what press materials tell us are, “homes that make your heart skip a beat.”
Morton, an Australian interior designer and stylist known as “the house whisperer,” takes us on a tour of the homes of people who have “by luck, chance or determination nailed that ever elusive interior je ne sais quoi.” It’s filled with eclectic homes and quirky details, a worldwide tour that offers plenty of inspiration – and surprises. And Morton’s introductions to each of the featured homeowners are delightful additions that add depth and context to the stunning photographs of the surroundings.
The second design book we’ve been dazzled by is called “French House Chic” by Jane Webster (256 pages, $45), which will be released May 8 by Thames & Hudson.
Here’s how it’s been advanced:
“It is more than 12 years since Jane Webster became Australia’s poster girl for packing up and following your dreams, when she and her husband bought Château Bosgouet, a derelict castle in Normandy and moved with their young children to France. In that time, Jane established the internationally renowned business The French Table which organizes cultural tours and cooking classes, shepherded her children through their school years in two countries, wrote two books (“At My French Table: Food, Family and Joie de Vivre in a Corner of Normandy” and “French Ties: Love, Life & Recipes”), made long-lasting friendships in her adopted home and spent countless hours observing French style.”
Her latest release is a glimpse into “the most private of French residences, from supremely elegant Parisian apartments to lavishly upholstered sitting rooms in French country estates.”
Indeed, the book is filled with photographs and tips – touching on everything from selecting the perfect gilded mirror to hanging art to creating “le salon” – inspiring you to create your own “French look.”
