Designing a day trip

Those searching for a rewarding day trip close to home will want to note that tours of The Glass House in New Canaan kick off May 1.

This season marks the debut of an “In-Depth Tour.”

The three-hour exploration of the 49-acre site will be the most comprehensive tour offered to date exploring the facets of modern architecture as seen through the elements of the onetime home of architectural icon Philip Johnson.

Also new is the Club Glass House for Kids, an after-school tour designed for children in grades 6 through 8. The program, available on select Monday afternoons, introduces students to the topics of architecture, contemporary art and craftsmanship.

The season – tickets are on sale now – will run through Nov. 30.

And those who like a good party, especially one with a philanthropic angle, will also want to note that this site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation will host its Summer Party benefit June 13.
