“Les Barricades Mystérieuses: Music & Poetry of Enigma” performed by REBEL Ensemble for Baroque Music with Paul Hecht, actor/ narrator

The internationally acclaimed baroque chamber music ensemble, REBEL will offer an intriguing program of music and poetry on enigmatic and mystical themes. Music by Couperin, Telemann, J.S. Bach, Rameau, Biber, Arvo Pärt and Matthias Maute. Poetry by Rumi, Rossetti, Carter, Vaughan-Williams, Shelley. The inspiration for this program is the hauntingly enigmatic rondeau by the French baroque composer, François Couperin, ‘Les Barricades Mystèrieuses’. Musical highlights of the program include J.S. Bach’s suite in b-minor for flute, strings & basso continuo, Telemann’s concerto grosso in a-minor for two flutes and Telemann’s concerto for two chalumeaux in d-minor.
The instrumentalists for this program are: Jörg-Michael Schwarz & Karen Marie Marmer, baroque violins; Matthias Maute & Sophie Larivière, recorders/ flutes; Risa Browder, baroque viola; Nina Stern & Ed Matthew, chalumeaux (early clarinets); John Moran, baroque cello; Anne Trout, baroque bass and Dongsok Shin, harpsichord.
