Maritime Folklore Exhibition: “From Shore to Shore: Boat Builders and Boat Yards of Westchester and Long Island”
January 17, 2013 @ 12:00 pm - March 9, 2013 @ 5:00 pmFree
January 18 –March 9, 2013
ArtsWestchester’s Peckham & Shenkman Galleries
31 Mamaroneck Avenue, Downtown White Plains
The building and repair of boats and ships of all sizes has long been a vital part of occupational culture during the history of the Hudson River area. While the construction of boats has changed dramatically over the years, the art of traditional boat building is being revived at key educational sites in New York. Reflecting 200 years of maritime tradition, this exciting exhibition will profile master craftsmen, their tools and the landmark boat yards where they work, historical timeline displays, models and actual boats that they have built.
