New Works by IRA BARKOFF
October 13, 2012 - October 28, 2012free
The emotional force of Barkoff’s paintings celebrates his abiding love for nature. He believes that nature will reveal the most intense beauty, against which an artist must measure the truth of his work. He paints not so much a given scene, but the light that emanates from it. “The shapes and hues in Ira Barkoff’s lyrical paintings feel inevitable. Each of his landscapes, and he has long been known for his landscapes, stands with a sense of solidity derived from his fidelity to the natural world. His skill for observation registers nature at its most vivacious, and yet spontaneityappears in his work, an energy that flows entirely from his imagination.” (Peter Campion, Art Critic). Born in 1934, Ira Barkoff says he remembers falling in love with landscape painting as a child during summer vacations in the Catskill Mountains, home of the Hudson River School of landscape painters. He studied at New York’s Art Students League and earned a degree in fine arts from Pratt Institute. His work can be found in galleries and museums as well as corporate and private collections.
