Andrew Ramsay and Cocq a Doodle take first prize in the conclusion of the Spring Horse Shows at Old Salem Farm.

It was Cocq a Doodle doo as Andrew Ramsay, aboard the cleverly named mare, took first prize in the $130,000 Empire State Grand Prix CSI3*, presented by The Kincade Group, the thrilling finale of the Spring Horse Shows Sunday, May 21, at Old Salem Farm in North Salem.

Katie Dinan, riding Dougie Douglas, had Ramsay’s speed but not his perfection and took second, while Lauren Tisbo, aboard Brindis Bogibo, finished third.

Afterward, Ramsay, a San Franciscan based in Wellington, Florida, was quick to praise the stout-hearted Doodle, a Dutch Warmblood.

“She really thrives on these bigger fields where I can let her gallop some,” he said. “She’s really a fighter, a trier, and she really wants to do it. That’s what really counts. Today, I’d say it was about 90 percent her and 10 percent me. I just pointed her at the fence, made some bobbles, and she took care of the rest.”

It was another picture perfect afternoon at the Farm, with bright blue skies and a light breeze to ruffle the winners’ sashes, along with good food, good shopping and good company for the spectators.
