Indulging mom

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and the even better news is that there is no shortage of options to pamper that special lady in your life.

Tonight from 6 to 8 p.m., The Westchester in White Plains once again holds its “Indulge” event for Moms and their nearest and dearest. WAG participated in it last year, and all we can say is it’s a great way to enjoy everything from makeovers to tech-talk to yoga, as well as food, giveaways and raffle prizes. For more, visit http://www.simon.com/mall/the-westchester.

While you’re at The Westchester, drop by Neiman Marcus for its Spring 2015 Scent Event. With any fragrance or cosmetic purchase of $100 or more, you’ll receive a cutout tote in black, white or pink with beauty goodies. For more, visit neimanmarcus.com.

Tomorrow from 6 to 8 to p.m., Sherry B Dessert Studio in Chappaqua hosts a cookie decorating workshop to make mom some sweet treats. For $25, you can decorate four cookies (sizes vary) and assemble them in a flower pot. Each flower can be personalized with colorful glazes, sparkling sugars and sprinkles. (Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.)

For reservations and more information, call 914-238-8300 or email info@sherryb.com.

Longing to say it with flowers? Say even more with a vase from the Glass House Design Store in New Canaan at designstore.theglasshouse.org.

For the bookish mom, there’s Susie Orman Schnall’s new novel “The Balance Project” (SparkPress), which looks at the extent to which women can have it all. There’s also “Listen to Your Mother: What She Said Then, What We’re Saying,” a new anthology published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons that features a number of other writers with Westchester County ties, including Kathy Curto, who taught at The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers. Her essay “Artichokes” considers the day her mother’s death really sank in, as she stood in the produce section of the local grocery store.
For more on these writers, visit susieschall.com and kathycurto.com.

Of course, the thing that many of us enjoy making for mom is a lunch reservation (so we don’t have to cook). The Royal Regency Hotel in Yonkers hosts a Latin-inspired brunch buffet on Mother’s Day from 1 to 5 p.m. that includes live music from Mambo Loco. Tickets are $45 for adults, $23 for children ages 7 to 12 and free for children under age 6. To RSVP, visit http://www.eventbrite.com/e/mothers-day-champagne-brunch-tickets-16749720866 or call 914-439-4532.

The Castle Hotel & Spa in Tarrytown has two offerings for mothers. The Thann Sanctuary has a Fountain of Youth Package that includes a 60-minute Abhyanga massage, followed by a 70-minute Nano Shiso antiaging facial and an Eden Breeze body butter treatment.

Meanwhile, the Castle’s Equus Restaurant will be serving a four-course meal of its French-style cuisine from noon to 7 p.m. The cost is $95++ per person, or $135++ per person with wine pairing. For more information or reservations, which are required, call 914-631-3646.

Last but not least, honor mom by doing something for others. Mention the Food Bank for Westchester at David Yurman in The Westchester through Mother’s Day, and the Food Bank will receive 10 percent of the proceeds.

You can also purchase the PRET*TY branded heart locket and help kids fighting cancer. Outside, the locket bears the inscription “I carry your heart with me” and inside “I carry it in my heart.” All of the net proceeds go to fund innovative pediatric cancer research through the Ty Louis Campbell (TLC) Foundation, named for the gallant 5-year-old, the TY in PRET*TY, who lost his battle to brain cancer in 2012. (The PRET*TY line of accessories is designed by his mother, Cindy.) For more, visit prettystore.org. – Georgette Gouveia
