Music, glorious music

The Ars Antiqua season continues with a Feb. 3 concert in Chappaqua.

The fanciful invitations from Ars Antiqua are enough to pique anyone’s interest, though the programs themselves certainly merit the elaborately elegant approach.

Mark Kramer, artistic director of the period instrument ensemble specializing in baroque music, has extended an invitation to the group’s next performance.

“Lost Empire: Late 18th-century Music for Viols” will be offered at 8 p.m. Feb. 3 at the historic Church of St. Mary the Virgin, at 191 S. Greeley Ave. in Chappaqua.

As Kramer shares, “The program ‘Lost Empire’ will feature late 18th-century French music for the viola da gamba, played on four antique instruments. The sparkling and effervescent music of Hesse, Telemann, Corrette and Guillemain will be followed by a buffet reception of French pastries and coffee.”

Tickets are $35 and will be available at the door the evening of the performance. The ticket desk will open at 7:30.
