Neiman gives itself a makeover

If a cosmetics department is the face of a store, then it’s fair to say that Neiman Marcus Westchester’s has recently had a makeover.

New lighting and cases give a bright, airy, pride-of-place quality to a department that has expanded into space once occupied by the Precious Jewels Salon on Level One. (The salon — anchored by a magnificent mirror-and-crystal starburst chandelier — is now at the opposite end of Level One, adjacent to the equally elegant, pearl-gray Van Cleef & Arpels Boutique, with its too-tempting Library and VIP Room.)

Along with new lighting and cases in Beauty come new vendors — skin care lines by the likes of Tata Harper, whose organic creations were the subject of an article in WAG’s July issue; fragrances by Byredo, Diptyque and Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris; dedicated shops for Armani, Clé de Peau Beauté, Tom Ford and La Mer, which has a captivating fish tank above one of its counters. (While some of the fish seem to be shy, hiding behind structures, others blow kisses and peer out at you as if you were in a giant people tank — which you may very well be.)

The Beauty makeover isn’t all that’s new at the White Plains store. There are shops leased by Céline and Prada in Designer Handbags and a new shoe space with plush, deep-blue carpeting in The Man’s Store on the Ground Level. Neiman Marcus also redid The Club Room, or lounge, in The Man’s Store, where gents can relax during a fitting. Meanwhile for the ladies, ready-to-wear Prada and ready-to-wear Brunello Cucinelli have dedicated shops on Level Three.

Down the line look for Dior cosmetics and men’s clothing and sportswear by Tom Ford to join NMW’s other offerings.

The store will kick off a celebration of its new look with a Project Beauty runway show Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. that will highlight makeup from NMW’s new lines. There will also be makeovers at the counters. The show coincides with the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event Sept. 8 through 18. A St. John’s trunk show adds to the fun on Sept. 10.

Then on Sept. 15, it’s the grand reopening from 5 to 8 p.m. with Champagne and hors d’oeuvres. There are luncheons for Lafayette 148 and Akris on Sept. 17, an Escada trunk show Sept. 29 and 30 and a fall gowns’ trunk show Sept. 29 through Oct. 1.

Makeup takes center stage once again for a mini Project Beauty Event Sept. 29 to benefit St. Ignatius School, serving students in the South Bronx.

But then, beauty is as beauty does.
