One with nature

With exhibits spanning two floors, there is a lot to see at the Greenburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale.

Calling all nature lovers:  The Greenburgh Nature Center has a jam-packed schedule of family friendly events taking place throughout the summer months, including a live butterfly exhibit and a family overnight campout.

On Saturday, July 20, from 10:30 a.m. to noon attend the Pollinator Meadow Walking Tour. You can stroll past gorgeous native plant species and learn about planting for the pollinators.

Sunday, July 21, 1 to 2 p.m., it’s mealtime for the animals. Learn how the center keeps its animals happy and healthy.

The main exhibits on the first floor of the Manor House include “A Forest’s Life,” with live animals and a greenhouse featuring a hydroponic growing system. Upstairs, visitors can get up close and hands-on (if you want) with live animals from all over the world.

For a joyful interactive experience, visit the Butterfly Exhibit (closed Fridays) through Aug. 3.

Looking for something cool to do with the family? Look no further than an overnight campout 5:30 p.m. Aug. 3 to 8:30 a.m. Aug. 4. Bring tents and sleeping bags for an evening that includes a barbecue and an exploration of moonlit trails with a naturalist in search of various night creatures. Cap off the night with s’mores by the fire.
