Ringing in the (Chinese) New Year

Pelham Art Center celebrates the Year of the Dog.
Pelham Art Center celebrates the Year of the Dog.

Few organizations in our coverage area are as multicultural as the Pelham Art Center. The center is always among the first to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Light, and, Saturday, Chinese New Year. The center rings in the Year of the Dog with Kwan’s Kung Fu, a Peekskill Kung Fu school, performing the Lion Dance, to ward off evil spirits (1:30 to 2:30 p.m.)

Then at 2:30, Shanghai-born, Chinese-trained artist Lida Zimmerman will lead a paper-cutting workshop. Junior artists will have an opportunity to make paper pooches and Chinese lanterns.

The center is at 155 Fifth Ave. For more, visit pelhamartcenter.org and 914-738-2525.
