Spring daydreams

Fuel those warm-weather daydreams with the Winter Lecture Series, which continues Feb. 22 at The New York Botanical Garden.

It’s hardly time to break ground on this year’s garden yet, but a series at The New York Botanical Garden brings those days – figuratively, at least – ever closer.

The 18th annual Winter Lecture Series is underway at the Bronx garden.

The lectures, which are offered at 10 a.m. in Ross Hall on the NYBG grounds, feature noted garden designers offering glimpses into their personal gardens.

It kicked off in late January with a lecture by famed nurseryman Dan Hinkley, who created a woodland garden for Heronswood Nursery in Kingston, Washington.

The series continues with:

Feb. 22 – Arne Maynard, a gold-medal winner at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London, will speak. He has created, materials tell us, “beautiful and sympathetic gardens for private houses around the world,” and will discuss his home garden at Allt-y-bela in Wales.

March 29 – Hamptons-based Edwina von Gal, whose landscape designs focus on simplicity and sustainability, will speak. Von Gal has created landscapes for Cindy Sherman, Calvin Klein and Ina Garten, among others. Von Gal will focus on Marsh House, her property in East Hampton.

To register for the lectures, $35 each ($32 for members), visit nybg.org/AdultEd or call 718-817-8747.
