That’s shoe biz: Coach buys Stuart Weitzman

Kudos to Stuart Weitzman, who’s just sold his empire of slinky sandals and comfy wedges to Coach for more than $500 million. The deal, slated to close by May, is a win-win for both. Weitzman, whom WAG profiled on the cover of its October 2013 “Extremities” issue, remains creative director and executive chairman of a luxe brand that can only be strengthened by its ties to another proven luxury performer. Coach – which has hit a speed bump of late on the road of handbag-sale and outlet-store success – gets a marquee name. You can find Stuart Weitzman shoes on the tootsies of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and, of course, Kate Moss, the face (or should that be the feet?) of the brand.

And as we’re sure there will be no loss of Stuart’s creativity and commitment to quality, we’re winners here, too.
