Last year, WAG followed Hudson Valley stone sculptor Bob Madden as he created a work, on site, at Crystal Park in Dutchess County’s Holmes.
When we headed up to Madden’s home-based Rock and A Soft Place Studio in nearby Poughquag, we also met his wife, fellow artist Karen Madden, who works in fiber and metal.
Now, we’ve heard from Karen about an open-studio tour in their area that will feature a number of artists – including the Maddens – at work in their studios in Pawling, Patterson and Poughquag.
ARTmostny, which stands for ART May open studio tour in New York, will be held May 18 and 19, featuring both finished works on display and artists working on projects.
As advance materials explain, “It’s the difference between visiting a department store to buy a sweater versus going to a farm to see the sheep, watch them being shorn, see the wool processed into yarn, then on to the factory floor where the wool is woven into the sweater.”
The artists, including painters, photographers, sculptors and a collagist, will also offer demonstrations of their techniques.
Studios will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
