In the eye candy-land that is Fifth Avenue in the 50s, the line of tourists and young things snakes around Abercrombie & Fitch like so many hopefuls at a hot club in the Meatpacking District. Meanwhile, H&M holds court down the street. But a new brand is making inroads on the avenue as Uniqlo anchors Fifth and 53rd Street with casual styles and neon colors. The Japanese clothing manufacturer is to Tokyo what Starbucks is to New York – one on practically every corner. The greeter at the main Manhattan locale told us the place has been jumping since it opened a year ago this month. We stopped by recently to check out the tennis and track threads worn by Novak Djokovic, the global brand ambassador, who’s going to be developing new products with the company. They’re sleek with a little edge, much like Nole himself.
