VIVA CUBA

By Alissa Frey

No need to trek to Manhattan for a little taste of Cuba. Havana Central, the Big Apple hotspot, has opened Havana Central Yonkers, the eatery’s first location outside of New York City.

Some 300 residents were on hand recently for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Joining the festivities – which included salsa dancing, live music and cigar rolling, along with signature dishes and cocktails – was Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

Inspired by Cuba in the 1950s, the nation’s golden era, Havana Central Yonkers features classic comfort cuisine, including such dishes as the vaca frita, ropa vieja and arroz con pollo; traditional drinks like mojitos and sangria, and performances like tonight’s concert by YeraSon, a New York-based charanga orchestra, (8-11 p.m).

The restaurant is located in Westchester’s Ridge Hill shopping center at 1 Ridge Hill Blvd. For more, visit havanacentral.com.
