Winter work unveiled

Wave Hill, a public garden and cultural center in the Bronx, will host Open Studios for its Winter Workspace program.

WAG first heard about Wave Hill’s Winter Workspace program during a lecture this past summer at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers.

The “Arts in the Afternoon” program put the spotlight on the museum’s neighbor, the public garden in the Bronx, and we heard how the garden, now for the ninth consecutive year, uses its “off season” to host artists, turning the galleries into studios.

Now, we’ve learned, as Session 1 of the residency program comes to a close, visitors can see the work created with an afternoon of Open Studio, set for noon to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 10. All the program’s participating artists – Tomie Arai, Camille Hoffman, Pedro Ramirez, Jessica Rohrer, Jean Shin and Austin Thomas – will be present to discuss their varied work.

Session 2 Open Studios, featuring a different group of artists, will be held March 24.

Both events will be in the Glyndor Gallery at Wave Hill, on West 249th Street and Independence Avenue in the Bronx.
