With Good Friday and the first night of Passover both falling on April 19, this is shaping up to be a bustling weekend, particularly for those flying the not always friendly skies.

Not everyone will be heading to the airport. Many in WAG country have already planned seders and Easter dinners at home. Still others are making reservations. The egg hunt, of course, is one of the signature events of this spring holiday and one of the biggest will be taking place at the Osborn Home in Rye April 20. The annual event, which begins at 11:15 a.m., is held in memory of longtime board member and former chairman Jack Miller. For nearly two decades, the event has drawn hundreds of participants from throughout Westchester County, as well as southern Fairfield County, as children in two age groups – those under 3 and those 3 and up – vie for more than 6,000 pastel-colored treasures, while parents and seniors enjoy the 56-campus (and the fun, minus the exertion of the hunt).
“The event is such a wonderful gathering of people of all ages,” says Matt Anderson, president and CEO of The Osborn.
The egg hunt is free and open to the public and preregistration is not required. The gates of the home, 101 Theall Road (just off Playland Parkway Access), open at 10:45 a.m. Participants are asked to bring their own baskets to gather eggs. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance and be available for photo ops. The event also features a DJ, dancing and games. Lunches – which include a hot dog, drink, chips and cookie – are $5.

Yes, it’s a big weekend for eating, but we say: Save room for chocolate. Easter is the biggest holiday for the sweet, creamy treat, bigger than Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Christmas.
