Ursuline campaign raises funds for school, local charities

With donations coming in from all over the world, The Ursuline School in New Rochelle has raised $168,456 for its annual CROWDS4TUS AND4OTHERS fundraiser. This surpassed the goal of $125,000, representing the 125th anniversary this year of the private, independent, Roman Catholic school for middle and high school girls.

“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring from throughout our community, and in fact, around the world supporting our school as well as supporting others in the community in the spirit of Serviam – “I will serve,” said Ursuline School President Colleen Melnyk, Ed.D.

The 25-hour crowdfunding event kicked off on April 5 with a school rally featuring Ursuline’s cheerleaders, remarks from Melnyk and a message from a student leader. At community watch parties that evening, students tracked the progress of donations on the action center.

For the third consecutive year of this school fundraiser, Ursuline donated part of the proceeds, more than $42,114, to two charities – HOPE Community Services of New Rochelle, the largest emergency food pantry and soup kitchen in the region, and Community Service Associates, a meal program in Mount Vernon. Over the past three years, Ursuline has raised close to $95,000 for these two local organizations.

“The money we received from The Ursuline School is going straight back into the community,” said Walter Ritz, executive director of Hope. “It will provide money to support our soup kitchen and our food pantry. We are very grateful.”

The 1, 019 donors included not only members of the local Ursuline community but also alumnae and friends of Ursuline in 35 states, as well as in Scotland, Taiwan, Germany and Armed Forces Africa, Armed Forces Canada, Armed Forces Europe and Armed Forces Middle East.
