On July 24 at Athleta in Scarsdale, you can plunge into “Water Music,” WAG editor Georgette Gouveia’s new novel about four gay athletes – two tennis players, two swimmers – and the searing professional rivalries that shape their personal relationships with one another.
Told from their alternating viewpoints, “Water Music” is a darkly haunting, timely story about how sports mirrors politics, how the past colors the present and how we learn to live with loss through love. It’s the first in Georgette’s series, “The Games Men Play,” which is also the name of the cultural blog she writes at thegamesmenplay.com.
Prior to becoming WAG editor, Georgette was senior cultural writer for Gannett Inc. Her nonfiction work includes “The Essential Mary Cassatt” (Harry N. Abrams Inc./Wonderland Press).
At the Athleta reading and book-signing, you’ll also be able to shop activewear and savor light refreshments. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Athleta, 700 Post Road, Scarsdale. RSVP: 914-723-0961, sue_wald@stores.gap.com.
