Be our valentine

We at WAG want to help you celebrate Valentine’s Day, our national holiday, in a big way.

Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 – which conveniently falls on a Sunday this year — has always been a special day for WAG and we like to celebrate it by helping you mark it in a big way.

Begin with flowers from Blossom Flower Shops at 800-544-4401 and chocolates by Jean- Georges, who’s created a special edition box of 12, featuring two each of amaretto caramel, raspberry Rosé, passion fruit, hazelnut crunch, coconut almond and alfajore (after the creamy, caramel cookie), for $48 plus tax. You can pick them up at The Inn at Pound Ridge by Jean-Georges from noon to 8 p.m. through Sunday. For more, click here.

Looking to “get away” this weekend?  Aquila’s Nest Vineyards in Newtown will “woo” guests with wine tastings, food trucks, live music and more. Get a jump on the celebration Friday, Feb. 12 with The Chamo, a local food truck that specializes in Venezuelan street food – arepas, empanadas and rice bowls. Savor female friendships on Galentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 13, at Aquila with the jazz guitar duo of Bill Schriber and Bill Kimball (2:30 to 5:30 p.m.) and its own Piano Soirée (6 p,m.), featuring the Crepe Hut’s sweet and savory crepes. Spice it up on Valentine’s Day with The Chamo, Graze charcuterie and cheese boxes, and saxophone music by David Davis from 3 to 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Apropros at The Abbey Inn & Spa in Peekskill, Goosefeather in Tarrytown and Perfect Provenance in Greenwich – which also has a host of gifts — are among the restaurants remembering Valentine’s Day with special dinner packages.

But before you wine and dine, say it with music in the form of a 3 p.m. Sunday concert by the Stamford Symphony, whose program of Johann Sebastian Bach and Claude Debussy includes Andrew Waggoner’s love “note” to his wife, the orchestra’s principal cellist, Caroline Stinson. (The piece, “At Home,” was composed during the height of the pandemic here last April.) The event is free and requires no registration. Just go to stamfordsymphony.org and enjoy.

The theater more your thing? Axial Theatre is presenting two different programs in its annual “Twisted Valentines”festival of monologues and short plays on the slings and arrows not of outrageous fortune (sorry, Hamlet) but of love. The virtual fest will be streamed today, Feb. 12, through Feb. 21. For more, visit axialtheatre.org.

Still looking for last-minute gifts? Neiman Marcus Westchester has a number of nifty offerings, including Hanky Panky’s Rosebud Original-Rise Leg Thongs in a floral box, $150, and Conversation Hearts Shortbread Cookies. For more, visit neimanmarcus.com.

However you spend your day, from our hearts to yours, Happy Valentine’s Day.
