Ending on a jazzy note

The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra wraps up its season June 17 with a performance featuring Gwen Laster.

The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra will present its season finale, “A Night of Jazz,” on June 17 at Rhinebeck High School.

The annual pops concert, an NDSO audience favorite, will include music from Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin and contemporary composer Scott Routenberg.

Jazz violinist Gwen Laster will be the evening’s featured soloist, playing “Concerto for Jazz Violin and Orchestra” by Routenberg.

The evening will also include NDSO juxtaposing Ellington’s jazz interpretation of “The Nutcracker Suite,” arranged for the orchestra by Jeff Tyzik, with the original “Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky.

Show time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $5 for students. The high school is at 45 N. Park Road.
