In the garden in Old Greenwich

A lecture on garden art and architecture will be the focus of the next meeting of the Greenwich Decorative Arts Society.

WAG’s current issue is devoted to “Fascinating Botanicals,” all things floral and fantastic, so we were pleased (but not surprised) to hear the theme isn’t just popular with us.

The Greenwich Decorative Arts Society will also put a floral spin on things June 3 when it next meets.

The society will present “Folly or Fantastic: Garden Art and Architecture from the Sublime to the Absurd,” a lecture by Lucinda Brockway, program director for cultural resources at The Trustees of Reservations in Massachusetts.

Here’s how the organization describes the talk:

“The wayward romp through the gardens of England, France and America will explore the unique, unusual and extreme in garden art and architecture. From shell-encrusted caves to towered barns, personal wealth has produced some of the most fantastic creations money could buy. This lecture will take a journey through time and place, revealing garden buildings, statuary and art from the 17thto the 20th century.”

Admission for nonmembers of the Greenwich Decorative Arts Society is $25. Space is limited. Reservations, required by May 27, may be made by emailing greenwichdecorativearts@gmail.com.
