Lady of the House

Nancy Pelosi’s red Max Mara coat sends a message to the nation: She’s ba-ack.

Rarely has a holiday coat spoken so voluminously beyond “Season’s Greetings.” When incoming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi emerged with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer recently from a meeting with President Donald J. Trump, much was made of her power-red Max Mara coat. Some wondered why the mainstream and social media always comment on what women wear. But surely any woman who is chic enough to pair a red Max Mara coat with Stuart Weitzman’s oh-so-Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge heels and Armani sunglasses expects people to notice her clothes. I mean, we know women use clothing to send a message, n’est-ce pas?And Pelosi’s message is, “I’m ba-ack.”

Alas, those seeking to purchase the coat are mostly out of luck as Pelosi bought it for President Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2012. But might we suggest another Max Mara coat that we posed in for a Chic Sketch at the Bloomingdale’s White Plains “Make Up Date” in November? It’s a reversible, double-wool cherry blossom pink and chocolate brown swing coat that’s sure to flatter. Plus, the cherry blossom side is perfect for any upcoming Pussyhat events.

We guess clothes do make the man (and the woman).
