Last call for the grandeur that was Rome

This type of silver coin of Alexander the Great, sporting the lion scalp of his great ancestor Herakles (Hercules), is the centerpiece of a magnificent gold choker on view in “Bulgari & Rome: Eternal Inspiration.”

This coming week is your last chance to see “Bulgari & Rome: Eternal Inspiration” at the Italian jeweler’s Fifth Avenue flagship. The small, show-stopping exhibit, which drew a society crowd for its bacchanal-style opening, features everything from a stunning jewel-studded collar that apes the cobbled Appian Way to the inscribed silver case Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton gave their “Cleopatra” director, Joseph Mankiewicz. (For all the agita their scandalous affair gave him on the set, perhaps they should’ve sprung for platinum.)

Our favorite – a gold choker with a silver coin featuring our favorite world conqueror (and Cleo’s great ancestor), Alexander the Great. Suffice it to say that it is a piece fit for an Egyptian or screen queen.
