MAD for jewelry

A few weeks ago I shared a glimpse into the dazzling exhibition, “Fashion Jewelry: The Collection of Barbara Berger,” which continues into early 2014 at the Museum of Arts and Design in Manhattan.

Well, I’m headed back to MAD early next week for a sneak peek at “LOOT: MAD About Jewelry 2013.”
LOOT is the museum’s annual five-day exhibition and sale of jewelry. And if you know MAD, you know it won’t be just any old jewelry.

Indeed, it is a curated collection of one-of-a-kind, contemporary studio and art jewelry that this year will be spotlighted Oct. 1-5.

Now in its 13th edition, LOOT 2013 is a most artistic pop-up shop for those who love their baubles on the innovative side. Artists from around the world will be participating, with related events throughout the week. These include the LOOT Award for Contemporary Art Jewelry presented to fashion icons Iris Apfel and Barbara Berger during a gala dinner Oct. 1 and a “Jewelry Study Day” Oct. 5.

Think of MAD, at 2 Columbus Circle, as the destination for all things jewelry next week.
