Mary Jane Denzer lives on

The members of WAG’s staff were among those who mourned the December passing of Mary Jane Denzer, whose eponymous dress and accessories store has been a go-to place in White Plains for more than 35 years.

Not only did Mary Jane – as everyone called her – always have the right dress for you (along with the right purse and jewelry). She knew just which designers WAG should be featuring. Without her we would’ve never profiled Ruben Singer, Cristina Ottaviano, Zang Toi and Neil Bieff, to name a few.

So we were more than heartened to hear that the woman who was a big part of the WAG family would go on through her store under the leadership of her strong right arm, Anastasia Cucinella.

Anastasia, who worked alongside Mary Jane for more than 13 years and became store manager, has been selected to run the day-to-day operations of the fashion salon by Mary Jane Denzer’s family, which will have an active role in the company.

“We are thrilled that Anastasia has agreed to stay on and bring her amazing eye and sense of style to the next stage of the store’s evolution,” says Mary Jane’s daughter Holly Alexander, who worked with her mother for many years. “Anastasia has a great vision for growing the Mary Jane Denzer brand by adding more accessible styles and designers to our already spectacular collection of fashion not found anywhere else. Her customer-centeric approach and focus on service will only build on the store’s allure as the ultimate fashion destination.”

Since taking over the reins at Mary Jane Denzer early this year, Anastasia has staged several trunk shows with up-and-coming designers, including Ohne Titel and Agostino Couture, with plans for shows throughout the spring and summer. The store’s selections of leading designer styles for day, evening and special occasions are expanding to include more styles, sizes and an array of everyday fashions.

“Having worked on the floor with our customers for many years, I understand their current and future needs for both the extraordinary dress and the everyday fashion statement that is more accessible but equally important,” Anastasia says. “I was fortunate to attend the shows in Paris, Milan and New York and see through Mary Jane’s eyes the importance of craftsmanship and style. It is an honor to be able to share that vision and expand upon it to meet our customers changing fashion needs.”

For spring, Anastasia is featuring such designers as Fabiana Filipi, Blumarine, Preen, Mantu, Erdem, Giambatista Valli, Oscar de la Renta, Jenny Packham, Georges Hobeika, Ohne Titel, J Mendel, Basil Soda, Ellie Saab, Monique L’Huillier and Tony Ward

Two years ago, the store moved to its new location near The Ritz, 7 Renaissance Square. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Complimentary valet parking is available.

I have been blessed to have been Mary Jane’s next door neighbor for over 15 years and have known her for 40. I am happy that the family will stay involved and keep Mary Jane’s love alive. I have also had the pleasure of meeting Anastasia, whom I know will do a wonderful job.
