The New-York Historical Society’s “Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg” (Friday, Oct. 1 through Jan. 23) honors the trailblazing Supreme Court Justice, cultural icon and native New Yorker with a special exhibit based on the popular Tumblr and best-selling book of the same name. The show takes an expansive look at the justice’s life and work, highlighting her ceaseless efforts to protect civil rights and foster equal opportunity for all Americans through archival photographs and documents, historical artifacts, contemporary art, media stations and gallery interactives.
Organized by the Skirball Cultural Center, the show debuted in Los Angeles, but the Big Apple, where the cheerleading “Kiki” Bader grew up in Brooklyn, has more in store. Unique to the New-York Historical Society’s presentation are remembrances from RBG’s visit to the museum in 2018 to officiate at a naturalization ceremony, a video featuring a map and photographs of key places in her life as a New Yorker and an overview of the memorials that have cropped up around her hometown in the wake of her passing on Sept. 18 of last year from pancreatic cancer complications at age 87.
RBG may be gone, but her legacy of justice for all will never be forgotten.
