ArtsWestchester, New York state’s flagship arts council, is celebrating its 20th anniversary at its Arts Exchange headquarters, 31 Mamaroneck Ave. in White Plains, formerly the Peoples Bank & Trust Building. In 1998, the council transformed the landmarked building into the multi-use cultural center it is today. To mark the occasion, the building is getting two new signs that will announce its role as an arts center.
“We’re finally putting our name on it,” ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam says.
ArtsWestchester is also commissioning a public mural in collaboration with the City of White Plains and The Kite Realty Group’s City Center, to be completed this spring in the drop off/pick up lane. It will act as a “welcome mat” to the cultural hub.
“It’s a highly visible location,” says Karen Pasquale, senior adviser to White Plains Mayor Tom Roach. “It’ll definitely be the kind of thing people notice right away.” ArtsWestchester is also expanding its Teen Tuesday program with free teen arts workshops from now through the summer.
