Remembering Brett Alcaro

Hilltop Hanover Farm in Yorktown Heights remembers its late head farmer with a farm-to-table fundraiser Thursday, Oct. 5.

Hilltop Hanover Farm, a nonprofit working farm and educational center in Yorktown Heights, will host its third annual “Farm-to-Table Dinner” on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m.  The dinner will feature a variety of seasonal and organic dishes from local chefs and restaurants, as well as local hard cider, craft beer and wine pairings.

The evening pays homage to former head farmer, Brett Alcaro, who worked at Hilltop for five years before he passed away in 2015 at the age of 37 after a six-month battle with cancer.  His dedication and passion for farming continue through the Brett Alcaro Scholarship Fund, which supports young and emerging farmers trained at Hilltop Hanover Farm.  Twenty-five percent of the net proceeds of the dinner are earmarked for a college fund dedicated to Alcaro’s two young children.

A cocktail hour, sponsored by Fidelity Financial, will kick off the event, which features live music and views of the New York City skyline. REMAX Realty of Pleasantville will be offering guests an opportunity to take hot-air balloon rides (for an additional contribution, weather permitting).

Tickets are available at the farm for $100 per person. Those interested in making a contribution to this event, or providing gifts for the silent auction, should contact executive director Lucille Munz at the farm directly, 914-962-2368.  There are also opportunities to sponsor larger items at the dinner, including the tent.

“The support from local businesses is vital to the success of this uplifting and important community event and we appreciate all of the efforts of the community to help us raise important funds for both the farm and Brett’s beautiful children,” Munz said.
