On Sunday, Dec. 21 at 3 p.m., the Westchester Philharmonic and some of Broadway’s brightest stars will light up the Concert Hall at the Purchase Performing Arts Center with the Phil’s annual “Winter Pops!”. The Phil’s newly appointed principal conductor Ted Sperling will lead a program titled “Anywhere I Wander: The Frank Loesser Songbook, “starring two time Tony Award-winner Christine Ebersole (“Grey Gardens,” “42nd Street”), Drama Desk winner Santino Fontana, (“Cinderella,” “Billy Elliott,” and the recent Oscar-winning hit “Frozen”) and Laura Osnes (“Bonnie & Clyde,” “Cinderella”).
One of the most versatile of musical theater composers, Frank Loesser wrote works that are among the most creative and enduring achievements of Broadway, including “Guys & Dolls,” “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” “Where’s Charley?,” and “The Most Happy Fella.” Even before he wrote his first show, he was known to America for the song hits of his Hollywood career, including the Oscar-winning “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
About a similar program directed by Ted Sperling and presented by the New York Philharmonic, Playbill commented: “Put together with the taste, intelligence and scholarship that we’ve come to expect from musical director Ted Sperling, whose expert conducting of this marvelous orchestra was only one of many highlights, the evening glowed from start to finish.”
Audiences can keep the holiday fun going at the Pops After-Party! Mingle with the stars while enjoying hors d’oeuvres from Taylored Menus of Pleasantville and a wine-tasting with Aries Wines & Spirits. The party is $22 with Pops tickets, which range from $30 to $97. Student/child/group discounts are also available.
