Red, white and blue

Story and Photographs by Zoë Zellers

Red, white and black-tie – that was the message behind the fabulous Red & White Ball thrown by the Metro New York North Chapter of the American Red Cross last month. Early on a sunny Saturday evening, WAG’s Zoë Zellers followed a line of stretch limos and black Range Rovers down the Merritt Parkway to the NetJets Hangar at the Westchester County Airport. At the valet circle, guests stepped out of their cars, their polished loafers and silver Jimmy Choo pumps leading the way (which were seemingly the “it” shoe of the night).

Inside the fabulously oversized space, our neighborhood’s beautiful and charitable guests enjoyed a (wide)-open bar and appetizers before a seated dinner. Friends weaved their way between the tables which were the real stars of the eve. This year for its annual ball, The American Red Cross invited designers to create their own clever “tablescapes” which ranged from high culture to pop culture (think red and white roses versus red and white Campbell’s Soup cans ornamenting the dinner tables).

Before the event guests also oohed, ahed and bid on the extravagant auction packages which seemingly offered something for everyone – including the golfer, the wine connoisseur, the fashionista, the spa-lover, the vacation jetsetter, even the Harlem Globetrotters fan! Meanwhile, the designers could be found close to their tables, posing for photos and mingling with curious fans, answering that age-old question, “So, what inspired you?”

The night’s featured designers included: Amy Andrews from Katherine Cowdin Inc., Bardin Palomo, Carey Karlan of Last Detail, Carmiña Roth Interiors, Catherine Cleare Interiors, Christopher Robert Matson, Connie Cooper Designs, Dale J. Minske, Datura, Elaine McCleary, Epicure of Design, Flowers & Flowers, Hampton Whites, Hoagland’s of Greenwich, Home Boutique of Greenwich, Jubilee Events, Lynn B. Garelick of LBG Interior Deisng, Marti Easton Interiors, Mia Schipani from RMS Residential, Moshe Aelyon Studio, LLC, Motif Designs, Natalie Dunagan of Circa Antiques, Olga Adler Interiors, Olley Court, Patty and Rick Tomasetti of Tomasetti Architects, Point One Architects, Sam Allen, Sandra Oster Interiors, Stark Carpet, The Flower Bar, Tom Farrington, University of Bridgeport Design Students, Victoria Hagan Interiors, WD Interiors, Inc. and White Dress by the Shore.

    GET OFF THE PHONE

April is a great time for talking about the foolish things we do. I’ll go first. I’m such a fool that I’ll lie on a massage table for an excruciating hour as a masseuse gently sloshes oil over my body...

    IMAGE ISN'T EVERYTHING

With more mags retouching pix to the point of transformation and more kids tuned to the media, young girls in particular are getting a dangerous message about body image.
