A SNEAK PEEK FROM LALIQUE

Spring seems far away, yet a glimpse into the Lalique introductions set for that season has us almost wanting to skip the rest of autumn and all of winter.

Spring seems far away, yet a glimpse into the Lalique introductions set for that season has us almost wanting to skip the rest of autumn and all of winter.

You may recall my colleague Zoe Zellers’ June story about the history of the famed company. We here at WAG, lovers of the beautiful and artistic things in life, have long been captivated by Lalique’s rich (and enduring) expertise in glass and jewelry design.

We’re happy to share the sneak peek into the latest designs highlighted in press materials sent WAG’s way on a recent day.

Byzance is the name of the spring 2013 crystal collection, created to “bring us back to the heart of the famed City of Doges.” The homage to Venice is filled with artful bowls, vases and sculptures with unique ornamentation and unwavering elegance. The collection, along with a number of other new works including the dramatically violet-hued Archers vase, will be in boutiques starting January.

And if you can’t wait until then, you can buy a design already for sale, the Lalique & James Suckling 100 Points wine glass. It’s the result of a collaborative effort with the noted wine critic, who calls the vessel, with a distinctive frosted rib stem, “beautiful yet functional.” The glass is $140 per stem and available in the Lalique boutique, at 609 Madison Ave., Manhattan. (212) 355-6550.

We’ll drink to that.
