Another opening, another show

The venue for this year’s edition of the prestigious Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Manhattan has been revealed.

Those with an interest in design know that May is the traditional month for the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Manhattan, an annual event that brings together leading interior designers from around the country to transform a tony property.

It’s a most stylish effort – and one done in the name of charity.

We can still recall some of the standout moments of last year’s show house, an event so impressive that we wrote about our visit not once but twice.

The organizers have now announced the venue for 2019, when the 47thannual edition of the monthlong event will again raise funds for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.

And in the Kips Bay tradition, it looks to be another blockbuster location, a rare double-width Georgian townhouse on East 74thStreet that’s on the market for $30 million. The property features expansive living space (more than 12,000 square feet) on six levels connected by a showstopping circular staircase – plus elevator – with some 10 wood-burning fireplaces, a garden and an art studio, as well.

As advance materials further share, the property “was built in 1920 by D. & J. Jardine and was once owned by George Whitney and later Dorothy Hearst Paley, who was immortalized by Matisse.”

Also shared in the announcement were comments from iconic interior designer Bunny Williams.

“Every year, we work hard to find an exceptional house that will act as the ideal setting for renowned designers from all over the world to display their personal styles,” says Williams, the Kips Bay President’s Dinner chair. “The 2019 Kips Bay Decorator Show House is no exception and offers endless opportunities for this year’s group of designers. We’re excited to see their visions come to life in this space.”

More than 20 designers – an exclusive list not yet revealed – will transform individual rooms and spaces with the public then invited to tour the townhouse and attend special events, all the while finding plenty of interior inspiration.

The 47thannual Kips Bay Decorator Show House will be open for one month beginning May 2. Some 15,000 visitors are estimated to attend each year, with the event having raised more than $22 million to date for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, which serves more than 10,000 children ages 6 to 18 throughout the Bronx.

Stay tuned for more details in coming weeks.
