The Westport Country Playhouse will host its 12th annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration at 3 p.m. Jan. 14 with a full slate of activities designed to honor the late civil rights pioneer.

Ibram X. Kendi, assistant professor of African-American history at American University, will serve as the keynote speaker. Kendi is the winner of the 2016 National Book Award for Nonfiction for “Stamped from the Beginning,” a book about the history of racist ideas in America. His talk, “How to be an Anti-Racist,” will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.

The day will also include entertainment with Chris Coogan and the Good News Gospel Choir, the Weston High School Jazz Ensemble and a dance performance.

The free playhouse event is co-sponsored by The Westport Library, TEAM Westport and the Westport/Weston Interfaith Council. The Playhouse is at 25 Powers Court.
