Garrison Art Center welcomes new staffer

The Garrison Art Center announces an addition to its staff.

It was last October when we shared the news that the Garrison Art Center had announced a new executive director, Katie Schmidt-Feder.

Now, it’s Schmidt-Feder who shares a bit of news:

“We are excited to announce that Kit Burke-Smith has joined the Garrison Art Center staff as education coordinator.

“Becky Gordon, who has done a phenomenal job serving as both education and exhibitions coordinator for the last year, will continue as exhibitions coordinator, giving her more flexibility for other career pursuits.

“Kit has been an arts educator for over 12 years. After attending the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy, she earned a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from SUNY New Paltz. She has taught studio art classes and workshops in metalsmithing, fiber arts, drawing, design, color theory and art history at SUNY New Paltz, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Dutchess Community College, Mill Street Loft, Manitoga Design Center, Beacon Art Studio, Beetle & Fred, Compass Arts, Rivertown Homeschool Hub and The Culinary Institute of America. Kit has also served as a site educator and docent for Manitoga: Russel Wright Design Center. In addition to being an educator she maintains a studio practice in Beacon, and runs an art jewelry business, Kit Burke-Smith Jewelry. Kit has also volunteered to organize and work many community events, including art auctions, fundraisers, after-school programs, libraries and city-wide art and business interfacing experiences.”

We at WAG welcome Burke-Smith and also remind art lovers of the Center’s annual Holiday Pottery Show and Sale. This year’s edition of the popular event will run Nov. 17-26.
