Hats off to Ellen Christine Couture

Hats off to Ellen Christine Couture for another moment in the international spotlight.

WAG has had the chance to touch on the work of Manhattan-based Ellen Christine Couture over the years, reaching back to 2014. It was then that we covered a lecture offered by namesake Ellen Christine Colon-Lugo – not only a hat designer but also a millinery historian – in connection with ArtsWestchester’s memorable exhibition “HATtitude: The Milliner in Culture & Couture.” Since then, we’ve featured the Monticristi by Ellen Christine Couture, a collaboration with the straw-hat company previously featured in WAG.

And most recently, we were dazzled by Ellen Christine Couture at a party we attended at the oliver + jane boutique, the latest venture by designer Jane Wilson-Marquis (profiled in September 2016).

Many in the fashionable Manhattan party crowd were wearing Ellen Christine Couture hats, with the evening’s honoree, author Gigi Schilling (“Ageless Bride”), wearing an Ellen Christine Couture fascinator on the book cover. Ellen Christine Couture creations are also featured at oliver + jane.

So, it was with a warm familiarity that we opened a recent email to find out that Ellen Christine Couture has had yet another moment in the spotlight – with actress Kate Bosworth wearing one of the company’s designs on the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar Taiwan. Quite exciting.

But it’s not all glitz and glamour for Ellen Christine Couture, which has also just announced it has created a limited-edition hat “inspired by the resilient spirit of Puerto Rico.” To help the post-hurricane recovery efforts, half the proceeds of these unisex caps will be donated to HelpPRdespacito.com.
