Saying it with flowers (and perfume)

Just in time for Mother’s Day, The Saks Shops Greenwich have opened Beauty on the lower level of the Main Shop, whose offerings include the lightly luscious EB Florals.

Here’s a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day and get your royal week off to a bang. The Saks Shops Greenwich – which included the Main Shop, The Collective and The Vault on Greenwich Avenue, along with10022-SHOE on Elm Street – have just opened the Beauty floor on the lower level of the Main Shop, which is undergoing a revamp. We were there for Wednesday’s official opening of the airy approximately 7,500-square-foot space with Eric Buterbaugh, Los Angeles-based floral artist and perfumer extraordinaire, whose light, unisex EB Florals fragrances are exclusive to Saks in our area.

The charming, chatty Eric, who created classic arrangements that included spray roses for Princess Beatrice’s 18th birthday party at Windsor Castle in 2006 – “lovely girl. I’ve known both girls (Beatrice and younger sister Princess Eugenie) since they were young” – says that while he may be called “the king of roses,” he would select the peony if he were going to limit himself to one bloom for mom’s special day or another big moment.

“Peonies are pretty amazing,” Eric says. “I just love that salmon-pink color that opens up to you.”

And, as we’ve pointed out above, they are the favorite of a certain future bride and duchess. So in honor of mothers, Meghan Markle and Eric, might we suggest his fragrance HRH Peony? It’s a fresh and fruity floriental, with heart notes of black peony and – our favorite – stargazer lily, base notes of patchouli and praline and top notes of bergamot and violet. $175 for 65 ml.
