Winter wonderland in downtown Yonkers

The city hosts Winterscape, a family-friendly holiday extravaganza featuring live music, arts and crafts and, of course, a visit from Saint Nick.

You needn’t travel far to experience a winter wonderland this year.

Just head down to Yonkers for its annual Winterscape, a family-friendly spectacular billed as the city’s biggest event of the season, taking place this Saturday, Dec. 16, from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

Guests will be enchanted by the cheerful sounds of live holiday music, including Christmas carols, and other forms of entertainment. Get in the holiday spirit by crafting your own gingerbread house at Philipse Manor Hall between 2 and 4 p.m., then say ‘hello’ to Santa and friends, who will be providing a toy giveaway, accompanied by hot chocolate for the ’rents. Prepare for some friendly competition during a snowball-throwing game, new to this year’s event. Or, if you’d rather some more arts and crafts, make your own holiday wreathes, in a workshop sponsored by the Urban Rangers of Groundwork Hudson Valley, or festive holiday buttons, sponsored by the Riverfront Library.

And no holiday extravaganza is complete without a Polar Express Party, slated to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Riverfront Library.

Winterscape will be held at 1 Manor House Square in Yonkers.
