New Rochelle Opera lends us a tenor

Tenor Matthew Polenzani – who headlined The Metropolitan Opera’s gala opening this season, starring with soprano Anna Netrebko in a new production of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” – is headlining another gala April 30.

The Pelham resident will be honored by the New Rochelle Opera at its annual Spring Gala at 6:30 p.m. at The Fountainhead in New Rochelle.

The evening includes a cocktail hour, a performance of opera favorites by upcoming singers, dinner, dancing, raffles and a silent auction. Black tie is optional. Tickets are $140 per person and may be reserved by calling (914) 576-0365 or (914) 576-1617.

Polenzani – who’s been acclaimed for the versatility and lyric freshness he brings to the concert and operatic stages – also starred this season with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda,” which along with “L’Elisir” was one of The Met’s popular “Live in HD” simulcasts. On April 27, The Met will be simulcasting Handel’s “Giulio Cesare,” with countertenor David Daniels in the title role and soprano Natalie Dessay as Cleopatra. The Met season runs through May 11.
