Tails wag for ‘Mutts on the Mountain’

Dog lovers and their furry friends run together at Blue Mountain Reserve to benefit the Westchester Parks Foundation.

Tails are in full wag for the annual “Mutts on the Mountain” race hosted by the Westchester Park Foundation. On Saturday, April 29, dog lovers and their canine sidekicks will convene at Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill for a timed, 5K-trail race or a one-mile “lazy dog” race. Food and refreshments will be available for both participants and spectators at the “Village at Mutts” station, as well as vendor items and a doggie exercise area.

For experienced runners, the 5K-trail race (3.1 miles) features nearly 500 feet of elevation gain, with water provided 1.6 miles into the course. Those who prefer a less competitive atmosphere can opt for the one-mile romp, which features views of the lake. Check-in for both races begins at 8 a.m., with the 5K race kicking off at 9:15 a.m., followed by the “lazy dog” race at 9:30 a.m.

All proceeds will support the mission of the Westchester Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization that advocates for the preservation, conservation, use and enjoyment of the 18,000 acres of parks, trails and open space within the Westchester County Parks system.

Blue Mountain Reserve is at 435 Welcher Ave. in Peekskill.
