The Russel Wright Design Center in Garrison is passing out its annual awards June 3 – and you are invited along to cheer on the winners.
The presentation will be the centerpiece of an event-filled afternoon in Mary’s Meadow at Manitoga, Wright’s longtime home on Route 9D.
The Russel Wright Award, established in 2000 by the Manitoga board of directors, is designed “to honor contemporary leaders who carry forward his legacy in design, architecture, landscape design, the environment and living in harmony with nature.”
This year’s recipients are Sam Farber and Lynden B. Miller.
Farber is the founder of COPCO Cookware and OXO International and is being recognized for furthering Wright’s concept of making good design available to all. Public garden designer Miller is receiving the honor for her pioneering work in the urban arena. Both honorees are based in New York City.
The day will get under way at noon with cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres and an auction preview, followed by a buffet brunch by Riverview Restaurant at 1 p.m.
Manitoga’s signature auction – Russel Wright designs will be among the items featured – will start at 2. The awards will follow at 2:30, after which participants are invited to stroll the Manitoga grounds and also visit Dragon Rock, Wright’s house and studio.
Tickets start at $250. Manitoga is at 584 Route 9D. Reservations, accepted through June 1, are required and may be made through russelwrightcenter.org.
