A social brunch

Brunch is becoming a family-style affair at Frankie & Fannucci’s in Mamaroneck.

I am a firm believer in the fact that brunch is one meal that’s always served best with friends.

And a cocktail or two, of course.

That’s why the new “social brunch” format at Frankie & Fanucci’s Wood Oven Pizzeria in Mamaroneck caught my attention.

The $25 per person brunch allows guests to choose from a trio of the eatery’s wood-fired pizzas, five brunch plates and a duo of side dishes, each served family style and perfect for sharing. Tables of three or more can select a pizza, two plates and a side.
On a recent weekend visit, we opt for a plate of soft scrambled eggs mixed with wild mushrooms, creamy ricotta and mascarpone. The dish is served with delightfully crunchy grilled garlic bread, perfect for pairing with the creamy eggs and a side of crispy oven-roasted potatoes.

The restaurant also offers diners its signature wood-fired slices with a breakfast twist. A crispy, thin-crust pizza is topped with sweet sausage, caramelized onions, thick slices of melted mozzerella and a sunny-side-up egg. And be ready for heaping portions. Our meal could have easily served another pair of hungry brunch-goers.

Guests are also able to take advantage of the restaurant’s “Pour Your Own” taproom, which features more than 30 beers, wines and Proseccos. The pour-it-yourself, pay-by-the-ounce dispensing system allows guests to sample as little – or as much – as they’d like of each offering. Diners are given a chip-enabled card that gives them access to try the variety of selections on tap.

The choices don’t stop there. The restaurant also offers a $10 do-it-yourself Prosecco bar, which includes a tray of tasty fruit purees and juices, liqueurs and drink garnishes.

Not sure you’re ready to be your own bartender? The drink tray also comes with a list of cocktail suggestions for the novice mixologist.

We experiment with a variety of concoctions, each tastier than the last – from on-tap Prosecco and spiced pear nectar to Agricanto liqueur and fresh pomegranate seeds. Other options include peach and pomegranate juices, ginger liqueur and “filthy” dark cherries.

“Brunch is all about having fun with friends on a casual weekend afternoon,” said Brad Nagy, co-owner of Frankie & Fanucci’s. “This social brunch creates a festive setting that revolves around sharing food experiences at the table.”
