LM Lions donate cookbook for the blind

Braille books for the blind and the visually impaired are well-known.

Braille books for the blind and the visually impaired are well-known. But perhaps less readily available are easy-to-use cookbooks and recipe cards.

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club has remedied that by donating “Cooking Blind & Sighted” to the Larchmont Public Library. The cookbook holds 125 recipes in Braille published by Visions Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, a regional nonprofit that is a beneficiary of many Lions Clubs in the area.

The recipes – provided by supporters of Visions and area restaurants – are grouped by a meal’s various courses and printed on card stock so that the Braille dots protrude. The pages are held in two large binders with tables of contents and indexes.

The book is available via email (PDF and text-only Word document) and Braille for $20.
