I bought my first Alexis Bittar jewelry quite a few years ago. Even then, it was tough to choose between the lovely pieces displayed in a shop on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I finally opted for two (yes, two) pairs of earrings – one in pale lavender and the other a dusty tangerine. Of simple carved Lucite and now nearing probably 20 years old, the earrings never fail to earn me compliments for the way they catch the light.
Over the years, I’ve been tickled to follow the Brooklyn-based designer’s rise to fame. I’ve spotted Bittar’s creations in countless fashion magazines and am pleased to know I own works by the man named the 2010 Council of Fashion Designers of America Accessory Designer of the Year. In the years since that early purchase, I have picked up a few more Alexis Bittar pieces (though not as many as I’d like).
In fact, I have lusted over more than a few pieces, from the recent and oh-so-gorgeous Grey Gardens to the Miss Havisham collections, when I’ve stopped by the Bleecker Street boutique.
Well, I was thrilled to hear that Alexis Bittar is soon to open his own boutique in Greenwich – later this month at 371 Greenwich Ave.
We’ll keep you posted on the opening festivities – and the happenings at this stylish addition to WAG country.
