Today marks the 212th birthday of Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States. Lincoln not only freed the slaves, won the Civil War and saved the Union. He established the Department of Agriculture, our public university system and what would eventually become Yosemite National Park. Not bad for a life cut short in Ford’s Theatre on April 14, 1865.
There are innumerable works on Lincoln, few more moving than “Lincoln Portrait” by Cortlandt Manor-based composer Aaron Copland.
Enjoy and to President Lincoln we say, thank you.
