A toast to Castle & Key’s new bourbon

Castle & Key announces first bourbon release in two batches.

Last weekend, Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfurt, Kentucky, launched its Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey Batch #1, the first bourbon to be released by the brand since it restored The Old Taylor Distillery in 2014.

Four years in the making, Batch # 1 tastes of toffee, bread dough, dates, baking spice and toasted almonds with aromas of honey, golden raisin, brown butter, orange blossom, baked nutmeg and stone fruit. The 98-proof (49% Alcohol by Volume) bourbon is finished with cinnamon and allspice.

Batch #2, due in early May, tastes of burnt sugar, dried fig, cracked pepper and cherry wood. It smells of rye bread, dry cinnamon, pine resin, red apple peel and barn wood. The 99-proof (49.5% ABV) is finished with charred oak and molasses.

Among the states in which the beautifully presented batches ($50 each) are available are Connecticut and New York.
